Jaeger-LeCoultre Duoplan

1942

During the interwar period, the preference towards dainty and refined ladies’ watches posed a challenge to watchmakers who sought to strike a delicate balance between the smallness of the watch and that of its accuracy. The Duoplan caliber was first produced in 1929 as a response to this quandary, utilising a two-planed movement which retained the large balance wheel, and hence ensured accuracy in a tiny watch.

This rehauled construction allowed for miniaturization of the movement to fit within fine jewellery watches, and Caliber 101 – as the Duoplan caliber became known as – remained in production today albeit with numerous developments brought on by technological advancements.
