Only Watch is a caritative biennial auction founded by Luc Pettavino that aims at raising funds to finance research to develop effective treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a neuromuscular genetic disease affecting nearly 1 boy 3,000 at birth.
Affirming the speculation and buzz surrounding the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, the staggering hammer price of CHF 31,000,000 has earned it the titles of the most expensive watch/wristwatch in the world, overtaking the previous record holders, the Henry Graves Jr. Supercomplication, which sold at Sotheby’s Geneva for CHF 23,237,000 back in 2014, and Paul Newman’s Paul Newman Daytona, which hammered at USD 17,752,500 in 2017.
Several lots managed to beat expectations by multitudes, such as the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic One, which managed to hammer in at an astonishing 63 times its high estimate of CHF 5,500. Also noteworthy is the Akrivia Chronomètre Contemporain, which achieved 6 times its high estimate of CHF 60,000.
